Experiential learning in Solar Energy – Kinder 2
We are our Future, reflecting on doing, investigating and discussing ! What a experiential learning in Solar Energy with Kinder 2 class by Ms Antoinette at Gozo College Sannat and Special Unit. Look through the photos and see these active learners participate and work in groups. This inquiry-based learning was possible because of resources found in the school. The eager students could see that a cog wheel device and a buzzer worked when the panel was in the sun and stopped functioning when they covered the panel. A miniature wind turbine was also used.
21st century skills such as creativity and innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration and citizenship are crucial in the educational process of the learners. Values such as respect and bringing along change are instilled in our students from a young age. Well done!
Focus Group Meeting and Inauguration of Life Skills Room
The second meeting of the Focus group ‘Dealing with Autism in Gozo’ was held on the 18th of May 2017 with the participation of professionals, parents and Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging. The work done in Gozo in the past year and the way forward were discussed during this meeting. The meeting was followed by the inauguration of the Life Skills Room by Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana. This is another milestone in the work done in favour of students with Autism in Gozo. Life skills sessions are part of the curriculum followed by students who attend Sannat Special Unit. This room, in which students can practice life skills, was designed to resemble the home environment. This is one of the fruitful results of the Erasmus+ project Dealing with Autism in Gozo.
Mother’s Day Crafts
Easter baskets reusing ricotta tubs
Ricotta tubs or any other plastic tub can be creatively transformed into cute little baskets. They are perfect for pretend play, shopping, easter egg hunts, gift boxes or favours! Our hardworking students at Gozo College Sannat Primary, got busy with this project. Ms Antonia, their Kindergarten Teacher heated the blade of a scissors to make two holes in the tub. Students put PVA glue on the tub and covered it with a layer of tissue paper. Finally they painted and decorated it. Then pipe cleaners were inserted to be used as handles for the baskets. Voila`!
Reusing baby food jars as Candle holders…a gift to mummy
Mummy, you guide me with your light while I colour your life. I love you Mummy! Little ones at Gozo College Sannat Primary and Special Unit School with their Kindergarten teacher, Ms Antonia, enjoyed decorating empty baby jars for Mummy to use as Candle Holders. Happy Mothers’ Day.
Preparations for the event ‘Walk for Clean Air’
EkoSkola…the whole school is in it… Together! That is our Vision. The EkoSkola Student Council at Gozo College Sannat Primary and Special Unit is at the front line proposing ways of how to reduce our carbon footprint and bring ideas forward. When discussing and planning the EkoSkola action plan at the beginning of the year, the EkoSkola Student Council proposed an Activity for the WHOLE school AND Community: ‘Walk for Clean Air’. The year 4 classes with their class teachers and LSAS, wrote a Notice as part of their writing task. This is part of their literacy curriculum with the beauty they are actually writing a Notice within a context, which is that of informing their fellow students of this Event. Every morning assembly, 2 notices by year 4 students are being read as reminders, one in Maltese and another in English. Then, the year 5 class wrote the invitation to parents as part of their Writing Task which was then distributed to all the school students. We are now reaching the date Friday 5th May. A coach is being used to take us to walk a trail from Ghasri to Marsalforn and then return back to Sannat. This walk is being organised in collaboration with the EcoGozo Outdoor Activity Teachers. Be the change. Take Action. Brilliant work by these teachers and students.
