Following the huge success of the Erasmus+ Project ‘Dealing with Austims in Gozo’ (2016 – 2018) which was mentioned by the European Commission as an example of good practice, Gozo College Sannat Primary & Special Unit would like to consolidate its good practices and disseminate them further across Europe. In order to be a centre of excellence we need to have a holistic and eclectic approach towards ASD.
Our next step in this ongoing project is to acquire knowledge and skills on behaviour management and on the very sensitive area of Sexuality education for which all European citizens, including those with disabilities, have a right for full access. These skills may be used in other areas of disability such as ADHD, PMLD, Down Syndrome etc. With the knowledge and skills that we acquire we would be in a better position to give support to parents and to train other educators. In the long run this will enhance the good reputation the school already has as a centre of excellence in the education of ASD students in Malta and in other European countries with which our school has connections through other Erasmus + projects and etwinning projects.
