Dealing with Autism in Gozo – SCERTS Training in the UK 11-15th Sept 2017
Head of School, Assistant Head and three teachers from Sannat Primary School and Special Unit attended a SCERTS workshop and school visits in the UK as part of the Erasmus+ project Dealing with Autism in Gozo. The workshop which was delivered by Emily Rubin focused on the SCERTS Model which is a comprehensive educational approach for children with ASD.

Focus Group Meeting and Inauguration of Life Skills Room
The second meeting of the Focus group ‘Dealing with Autism in Gozo’ was held on the 18th of May 2017 with the participation of professionals, parents and Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging. The work done in Gozo in the past year and the way forward were discussed during this meeting. The meeting was followed by the inauguration of the Life Skills Room by Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana. This is another milestone in the work done in favour of students with Autism in Gozo. Life skills sessions are part of the curriculum followed by students who attend Sannat Special Unit. This room, in which students can practice life skills, was designed to resemble the home environment. This is one of the fruitful results of the Erasmus+ project Dealing with Autism in Gozo.
San Miguel Special School Staff visit the Special Unit
During this visit we shared our knowledge and experience regarding new practices adopted as a result of the Erasmus+ project on Autism. We discussed potential Erasmus+ projects which we can work on together.

School PD session on Autism – Erasmus+ project
This Professional Development session was part of the dissemination phase of the Erasmus+ project on Autism. Five members of staff, who attended a course on Autism in the UK last September, shared information and experiences to the rest of the staff.
Erasmus+ Project – Autism Course in London
In September, Head of School Ms Pauline Grech, Asst Head Ms Victoria Cassar and Special Unit teachers Ms Joanne Sultana, Ms Monica Barbara and Ms Simone Mangion followed a course on Autism in London. They also visited three special schools and had meetings with members of staff who were very helpful in sharing their knowledge and experiences in this field.
